Lectures from 11:00 a.m.

Internationalism and countervailing power today

It started with the food crisis at the beginning of 2008. In the autumn you can already read: The number of hungry people rose to one billion people worldwide. Now the bursting of the bubble makes that the economies of industrialized countries are rolling, unemployment and poverty are rising in the metropolises again. The multitude of crises is the main character of the system - and its expiry. Internationally the answers are still multifarious, but you can hear an anti-capitalist tenor yet.

Contributions from:

  • Klaus Gietinger, producer, writer, Cologne (Germany)
  • Imad Samaha, l’Univerité Libanaise, member of the Politburo of the CP Lebanon
  • Domenico Losurdo, philosopher, Italy
  • Georgina Alfonso González, Deputy Head of the Cuban Institute of Philosophy
  • Sara Flounder, International Action Center, USA

Parallel program from 01:30 p.m.

No Peace with NATO

60 years NATO = 40 years Cold War and nuclear threat, plus 20 years wars around the world and new Cold War. NATO must go. Therefore something has to be done in spring 2009.

Youth Meeting in preparation of the activities against the NATO's anniversary:

With representatives of youth associations (including the Socialist German Workers' Youth, Workers' Federation of Democratic Societies - Youth, Socialist-Democratic Students' Association, Antifascist Left Berlin, Revolutionary Anti-Fascist Action Berlin, Communist Youth Greece) and other international guests

Panel Discussion from 06:00 p.m.
European Union - the nice empire next door

The United States of Europe with a capitalist basis marks a reactionary project. There is no peace that emanates from European terrain: From the 27 members only Cyprus and Malta are currently not involved in war operations. EU means: cutback of democracy, destruction of social achievements of the labour movement, uncontrolled anti-communism. Why is this paradise for the big business so attractive for the German Left?

The European Union: militarization, degradation of democracy and social standards. How can an effective international resistance of left forces look like?
  • Michael Kronawitter, antifa-activist
  • Lothar Bisky, chairman of the European Left Party
  • Stefanos Loukas, director and editor of Rizospastis, member of the
  • Politburo of the Communist Party Greece
  • Domenico Losurdo, philosopher, Italy
Moderation: Arnold Schölzel, chief editor “junge Welt”

Concerts from 08:00 p.m.

50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution,
90th Anniversary of the assassination of Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht

No socialism without an own culture, no revolution without an own music

Songs accompany them. Songs are the memory of victory and defeat. Art and artistic activities become everyday life in the socialist society. 50 years Cuban Revolution implies five decades of new Cuban music. 90 years after the November revolution the songs of the labour movement can be regarded as newly discovered.

Vicente Feliu, prominent representative of the Nueva Trova Cubana, accompanied by José Andres Ordas Aguilera
EWO2, the small electronic World Orchestra (The four musicians around the German songwriter Bernd Köhler have rearranged traditional songs of the international labour movement on their current CD "avanti popolo". Over seven months they kept up in the list of Top Ten.
