Who's afraid of who?

In the summer of 2007 the so-called mortgage bubble burst. Since then, the financial and economic crisis crunched its way through the continents. This crisis constantly breaks new records in poverty, unemployment and physical misery to the point of starvation. Politically, the way there was cleared in the U.S. and the EU by increased preemptive counterinsurgency, by strengthening the repressive apparatus, reduction of parliamentary democracy and social arrangements with generous socialization of the losses the banks and the rich are facing.

Corporate media of the Western world acclaim each step of the expropriation of wage-earners, small self-employed, pensioners and patients. In the US-led wars for a new world order, they are part and parcel of the psychological warfare against its own people. Neo-fascist movements gain popularity.

Resistance towards this kind of slipping into barbarism is upheld in many different countries in varying ways. From the strikes of students in Chile to the fight against the prison-industrial complex of the United States, from the anti-capitalist movements in the banking metropolises to the efforts to preserve the Cuban Revolution.

Young Workers 2013: Learning how we have to fight
Youth Forum with union representatives and youth activists

The state programs to tackle the crisis in Europe not only affect young workers in Greece, Spain and Portugal. Also in Germany the future prospects of students and trainees are worsening. Lack of training opportunities, hardly enough payment to live on, temporary and precarious employment are daily routine for teenagers. But resistance against this development is becoming stronger.

In recent years, tens of thousands of young trade-unionists took to the streets, have been fighting for permanent engagement after their apprenticeship. Young workers in retail stores unite in “organizing” projects to resist the pressure of the employers more effectively. In and outside the unions initiatives emerge - to restrict and prohibit labour leasing. Representatives of trade union and youth organizations discuss, which form the resistance of apprentices and young workers takes. Which measures at union and company level can be considered as groundbreaking?

“The enemy stands on the left!”

On November 4th, 2011, two members of the "National Socialist Underground" were found dead in Eisenach, the third surrendered to police a few days later. German security officials assigned the 14-year-long series of murders, bomb attacs and bank robberies of the neofascist terror cell to wrong persons. Mainstream politicians and media spoke of "mishaps" or "failure". In fact, state and neo-fascists had close-knit ties. The consequence for those in power is a centralization of intelligence and police - also targeting "leftism" at the same time.
Where will German state power end up? What do these developments mean for the political left?

After decades of experience in world-music-groups like the 17 Hippies, Di Grine Kuzine, Grins One Mishpoche etc., the bassist and multi-instrumentalist Cosmo W. Pepper (Carsten Wegener) and Levante IN Patsh (Detlef Pegelow) met comet-like. Together they hit the road to trace fragmented companions with a malwoniac, like-minded soul.
Trombonist Anke Lucks (ROTFRONT, Balagan), violinist Claudia Mende, accordionist Paula Sell (Hans Unstern, Balkan Tanzhaus) and banjo player and tenor horn Dr. Itzbar Dschucka (Thomas Schudack) joined them: Shmaltz! was born. Henceforth the 6 musicians devote to the joyful mission to carry the culture of Malwonia into the world.
